What Data I Collect And Why
Comments
When you leave a comment on the site, I collect the information shown in the comment form — your name, email address, and any website URL you provide — along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This information helps detect and prevent spam.
Your email address may be converted into an anonymised hash and shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture associated with it. You can read the Gravatar privacy policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If you do use Gravatar, your profile picture will be visible publicly alongside any approved comments.
Media
If you upload images to the website, please be aware that they may contain embedded location data (known as EXIF GPS data). Other visitors to the site may be able to download and extract this information. I recommend removing location data from images before uploading if you would prefer to keep that information private.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles from third-party platforms. This embedded content behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited those third-party websites directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interactions with their content — particularly if you are logged in to an account on those platforms.
Cookies
I use cookies in the following circumstances:
Comments: If you leave a comment, you may opt in to having your name, email address, and website saved in cookies. This is purely for your convenience, so you don’t need to re-enter your details next time. These cookies last for one year.
Login: When you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie holds no personal data and is removed when you close your browser. If you log in, additional cookies will be set to remember your login session and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; display preference cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login session to two weeks. Logging out removes all login cookies.
Editing: If you publish or edit a post, a short-lived cookie records the ID of that post. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.
