Just Writing
Creative fiction. My dream, my passion, the groundwork for everything I’ve gone on to do.
These pieces are not client work; they represent the writing I create because it serves as my comfort zone, a safe space to explore areas of writing that pique my interest. This is a space where I can articulate my thoughts, delve into concepts, or imagine the realms I aspire to create.
They also happen to be where you’ll find the clearest evidence of voice, character, tension, and craft.
Guts
A Dungeons and Dragons Based Short Story
Guts is the latest piece of short fiction that I have written for my MA. It was submitted for my most recent assignment while studying the ‘Writing About Relationships’ unit.
The story explores the relationship and emotional breakdown between Kalyis and Dippy (Kaelithra), two characters that I created as part of my friend Morrow’s D&D Campaign. I wanted to challenge myself with writing a piece within a fantasy setting, without the scaffolding of world-building to rely upon, while still maintiang and second person voice.
What’s here
Short fiction, TV and film scripts, character studies, and genre fiction across sci-fi, fantasy, action, and adventure. Some pieces were written for university, some for competitions, some just because the idea wouldn’t leave me alone.
If you’re a client wondering why a copywriter has a creative writing portfolio, the answer is why. Voice is a skill. Knowing how to build tension, write a character with a distinct perspective, or land an ending is a skill. These pieces are proof I have those skills before I ever touch a brief.
